Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is hosting a course titled, “Advanced Sequencing Technologies & Bioinformatics Analysis,” from November 10 to 23, 2024. The course explores the use and applications of massively parallel sequencing technologies, with a focus on data analysis and bioinformatics. Students will receive instruction in the detailed operation of several short- and long-read platforms, which will include library construction procedures, general data processing, and in-depth data analysis. Variant calling, transcriptome analysis, single cell analysis, metagenomics, epigenomics and other topics related to the students’ research areas of interest, as well as cloud-based computing, will be explored.

Felicia Gomez, Obi Griffith and Malachi Griffith from Washington University School of Medicine, Elaine Mardis, from Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and W. Richard McCombie, from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, will serve as the course instructors. The course co-instructors are Christopher Miller, from Washington University in St Louis, and Jonathan Preall, from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Guest speakers will be invited to highlight unique applications of these technologies.

Applicants from a diversity of scientific backgrounds including molecular evolution, development, neuroscience, medicine, cancer, plant biology and microbiology are encouraged to attend.  Applications are due by August 15.
